My Happy Morning Green Smoothie

green smoothieSmoothies are talked a lot about in the health blogs because of their amazing health benefits to the mind and body! As long as there are more veggies than fruit in my opinion;)

Since I became pregnant smoothies were less than appetizing until now!  I have been able to make and LOVE them! I will make a huge amount and Harlo and I will have this for a mid morning snack! We even save some for daddy when he gets home! It is great to drink your veggies! There are so many fun ingredients I will add to our smoothies. I try to include Harlo with what I put in the smoothie to help her learn what we put in our bodies is important. If I am feeling ambitious I will make a weeks worth and freeze them to make it easier on us during our hectic weeks!

Chia seedsI love adding Nutiva’s Chia Seeds to our smoothies because chia seeds are super nutritious. They are loaded with fiber, protein, Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3’s are great for body and brain development. Who knew such a tiny seed could be so nutritious! When adding the seeds it makes the smoothie a little thicker so I will add a little more water or almond milk to the mix to help thin it out! If you like thicker smoothies then no need to add anything!

In an article I read from www.authoritynutrition.com “Mayans and Aztecs prized chia seeds for their ability to provide sustainable energy. The word “chia” is ancient Mayan word for “strength”” As a mama I need all the strength and energy I can get!(this is not an Ad for Nutiva products I just really love my Chia seeds and hemp protein!)

smoothie ingredients

I make my ‘happy morning smoothie’ the most often because of the serious yum factor!

Here is the recipe for ‘happy morning smoothie’

3 handfuls of organic kale

3 handfuls of organic spinach

6 organic strawberries

1-2 bananas

1 coconut milk yogurt

1/2 cup almond milk

1/4 cup organic fresh squeezed orange juice

2-3 tablespoons of Nutiva Chia seeds

3 tablespoons of hemp protein

You then blend it up!

**This makes about four 8oz jars or 2 16 oz jars. Also double or half the recipe if you would like:)

You can always add a little extra water like I mentioned above.

a toddler and her green smoothieMy daughter loves to drink her smoothie with me!  I am currently looking for a handy glass cup for toddlers! If anyone has one they love let me know!

How many of you make smoothies? What’s in your smoothie?
