How We Keep Our Immune Systems Healthy

It is so hard to be healthy all the time! We all get sick but we don’t have to get sick for super long time! All we need to do is have our “Immune System tool kit” on hand so we are prepared to take down whatever virus heads our way! My girls are not in school yet so they don’t bring home as many germs but we all still get sick. I love natural remedies and using things that help our body fight what we have naturally! I use essential oils, supplements and elderberry syrup to help keep my family healthy! I will provide you with the syrup and gummy recipe we use for our elderberries! I will also share the probiotics I use as well during the dreaded cold and the probiotics I use everyday (when I am not sick). They are also safe for my girls to have too!

My immune system tool kit has a lot and yes I admit it can be hard to do all this when you are running on no sleep and sometimes sick at the same time. Somehow I found myself pulling through. It is funny- when you become a parent a sort of adrenaline kicks in and you turn into a superhero and able to take care of yourself and your kids. Anyways back on topic so here is my go to’s for when sickness plagues our house.

  1. 1. Thieves oil– immune boosting properties we apply to bottoms of our feet and spine using roller ball bottle like this. I take one drop on my tongue every two hours with water too! It is hard for my kids to take the oil because it is a ‘spicy’ oil. I also make a thieves tea.

Thieves Tea

  • – little raw honey
  • -1 drop of lemon oil
  • -1 drop of thieves oil
  • – 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • – warm water – not hot because it will ruin the healthy enzymes in the honey and oils!
  • 2. Lemon Oil– Super great for helping to drain your lymphatic system especially during allergy/ cold seasons. Also known for detoxing your body of toxins.
  • 3. Elderberry Syrup/Elderberry gummies -We were giving our kids syrup for the longest time and with the mess and multiple items of clothing getting stained
  • 4. Lungroot syrup– Helps respiratory system
  • 5. Snifflease oil/ RC oil- I use snifflease on my kiddos it is prediluted and I attach a rollerball to that bottle and just roll it over their sinuses, back, chest
  • 6. Love Bug Probiotic– colds suck so helpful for when the cold strikes!
  • 7. We go to the chiropractor and get adjusted so help with drainage, congestion and overall wellness! Works amazing!
  • 8. Lots of rest/movies/relaxing and doing nothing

If interested in any oils but don’t want to become a member with your own kit of oils just send me a message on IG or comment here and I can add your oil to my monthly orders and ship it to your house! Easy Peasy!

Elderberry Syrup– (This recipe is from The Real Food RN, click here to find her recipe)

Ingredients:

Elderberries- 2/3 cup dried elderberries

3 1/2 cups of water

2tbsp fresh or dried ginger root

1 tsp cinnamon powder

1/2 tsp whole cloves or clove powder

1 cup raw honey

Directions:

Pour water into medium saucepan and add elderberries, ginger, cinnamon and cloves. No honey because it is too hot. Bring to a boil and then cover and reduce to a simmer for 45 minutes- 1 hour until the liquid has reduced to half. Then remove from heat and let cool enough to be handled. Pour through a strainer into a glass bowl.Throw the elderberries away and let the liquid cool to lukewarm. When it isn’t hot add 1 cup of honey and stir well. When honey is mixed into the elderberry mixture pour the syrup into a mason jar. You can get them here. Store the syrup in the fridge. The holistic RN states that this will last several months. (this is the syrup you can use to make the Elderberry gummies- recipe below)

The dose for the syrup is 1/2 tsp – 1tsp for kids/ toddlers & 1/2 tbsp-1 tbsp for adults.

Elderberry Gummies (recipe also taken from the holistic RN- click here for her recipe)

Ingredients:

1 1/4 cup tart cherry juice

4 tbsp unflavored gelatin

1/4 cup elderberry syrup

2 tbsp raw honey

Directions:

Heat 1/2 cup of juice until bubbling then in a glass jar combine gelatin and heated juice. stir briskly to dissolve gelatin. In a medium bowl combine all of the ingredients and whisk until well combined. Don’t use the honey in this recipe if a child is under a year. Then pour into the molds. We have these molds and they are so cute! Have them set in the fridge for an hour.

So both of those recipes I found here. I followed them and it turned out great! I highly recommend both! The gummies make it so much easier for kids!

Hope you all try this and let me know if you make it and like it! I think it tastes super yummy! Also if you are interested in oils I can tell you about them or if you just want to try an oil let me know and I will add it to my order and ship it out to you!
