Hiking in Devils Lake

by jennaeostrowski on / Family

A few weekends ago we went on a big family hike in Devils Lake. I was a little nervous about how the kiddos would do since this was my first time hiking and their first time but WOW they were angels! Harlow walked the entire time. We got this awesome backpack bag from Amazon to carry Sutton and it worked like a charm! It was so nice to have prime because i was able to order it last minute! We all enjoyed our time and definitely will be going again! Below I will share what we took with us and our must haves for hiking with kids!

Toddler Carry Backpack // Waterbottles (no spill for kids) // RePlay snack cups

My Jacket // My Sherpa pullover // My leggings // My boot socks (similar linked)  // My boots // H’s Sherpa pullover // H’s boots//

Hiking boots ( highly reccommend they are so comfy and I wore them 3 hours straight and not one blister and my feet felt comfy the entire time) Fit TTS I am wearing a 9 –my usual size and only $25

We had a great time and I made sure I layered the girls where if we had to take a layer off it would be easy to carry with us but also not too bulky if we had to put it in the backpack carrier storage area! We actually didnt need to take any layers off and I think I layered them well because they lasted the entire time never saying they were cold.

I had them each wear an undershirt, then a flannel shirt, a sherpa pullover, scarf, then their puffer jacket along with hat & mittens. I had them wear tall socks with their boots to be sure they didn’t get a draft up their leg! It worked well for the 46-50 degree weather we had! I packed each a water bottle for them and a snack cup filled with cheerios and a squeezie for our little break we took! It was just enough to fill them until the hike was over and we were able to go and eat a meal! If you are local to Wisconsin or plan to visit sometime I HIGHLY recommend Devils Lake State Park! Beautiful scenery and a variety of trails for all ages and experience levels!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Stay blessed,

xo Jenna
